Cupid Shot Me!

In honor of Valentine’s Day I’m teaming up with a bunch of other blogs through my dear friend’s blog Diane Estrella . If you enjoy hearing people’s love story, click on Diane Estrella, and check out some more… Now, for my story….

My first day at a new job in my uncle’s bakery shop…..I walk in to find a handsome (understatement) young man talking with my uncle. I walk past them, and the handsome boy and I lock eyes. I can feel him still looking as I continue to walk past, and even as I arrive behind the counter and venture to take a peek back at him I find that he is STILL looking. A hansdsome manboy staring at me? What else could I think but……..

Sara’s inner monologue:
‘WHAT is that freak looking at? Why is he staring at me? I had better duck behind these pastry display cabinets and make sure I don’t have something in my nose or smeared across my face… Nope, nothing. Why is he looking at me like that?…….’

It turns out that he was staring at me because Cupid had shot him! He loved me from the very moment he laid eyes on me. I think cupid had shot me too, except I never would have dared to dream that anyone as handsome as Sal would even consider me romantically.

The next 6 months were a blur of him making excuses to come out to the storefront from the offices where he was the manager, and me making excuses to go back to the offices to get spare paper clips and post-it notes….the flirting was…endless…and wonderful. A giant, ongoing ping pong tornament of sarcasm, wit and practical jokes……

After that 6 months of firtation, we finally had our first date and it litearlly feels like we’ve scarcely been apart since! Within 2 months of dating, the “M” word was mentioned…..we just always knew that we would be together.. We’ve been together for almost 14 years, married almost 11 and we can both say we just always ‘fit’ together. Sal and Sara. Sara and Sal. Itchy and Scratchy. Ren and Stimpy. Tom and Jerry. Fred and Barney. Pinky and the Brain (he’s pinky, of course..)

Two best pals living life as one big comedic dialogue, raising three little mini us-es ( for better or worse!) forever knowing that we had no other choice but to love each other from the moment we first set eyes……….

Have you ever experienced love at first sight? Or just the opposite, and it all took some time? I’d love to hear it……

  2. Itchy and scratchy!!!! Love your story. Now I have to hear what Sal’s inner monolgue was!!!! :O)

  3. For my husband he says it was love at first sight, but it took me a while. So glad he didn’t give up on me. We’ve been married for 27 years! ♥

  4. Very sweet story, darling!

  5. This is so sweet! It wasn’t love at first sight for us, but within a month or so, we knew.
What a great story! I loved your inner monologue. LOL

  6. Awwwww. You two make a daaarling couple. Blessings**

  7. Sara! Love your and Sal’s love story! How awesome to know that someone fell in love with you at first sight! ;o)

Your story made my heart smile!

  8. I love this story, Sara! And do you thank your uncle every time you see him, and dream of love whenever you eat a donut?

  9. What a sweet story…and what a pretty blog.

  10. A fabulous love story. My partner and I have similar stories but currently we only have two years behind us!! Here’s hoping I’ll be writing a similar post to you in a few years time.

    I just became your 200th follower… YAY!!

  11. I am actually NOT itching for more love stories! 🙂 BUT I really enjoyed reading yours… that’s so wonderful. I remember where I met my first love, but I can’t remember if it was love at first sight. I’ve never experienced anything like what you’re describing, but I and my high school sweetheart (not the same person) recently reconnected. I just finalized a divorce and he’s going through one. Kismet or coincidence? An-t-way, it’s nice to talk to someone who I only have good memories of.

Wow, how did this comment get so long? An-t-way, thanks for sharing your story. You’re a great storyteller… ever thought of writing a book loosely based on your love story?

  12. Great story!!! You two make a beautiful family!

  13. Very sweet story – thanks for sharing! Ours was love at first sight too. However, we were both in (dysfunctional) relationships at the time, and at first denied being interested in each other. We let ourselves get romantic much later, when we were already happily single:-)

  14. What a sweet story. =)
My dh and I have been married for almost 11 years as well.

Just wanted to pop on over and tell you that I have given you The Sunshine Blog Award. =)

  15. *Sigh*. I loved reading that. Made me smile.

  16. You made me cry! 😉

What a fab story. You write beautifully ~ for real.

  17. Woo Hoo! Happy Valentine’s Day to YOU! Being from the Mohawk Valley, do you sing to him, “I know a guy, his name is Sal.” Blessings to you on this special cupid’s day.
